State and Federal Tax Credits for Historic Renovation
Properties that are contributing structures in historic districts and are renovated in accordance with state and federal requirements are eligible for a 25% state tax credit and a 20% federal tax credit. Non-contributing buildings built before 1936 are eligible for a 10% federal tax credit. Credits and deductions are also available to businesses that remove barriers to accessibility, under the Americans with Disabilities Act. FCBD, Inc., Franklin County Business Development, Inc.
The Franklin County Business Development Program is designed to assist individual entrepreneurs with developing successful small businesses. The program provides assistance with preparation with a business plan, loan applications, and ongoing business support. To be eligible for a loan, the applicants business must be located in Franklin County and participate in the business development courses. Contact Charlie Skala at 540.483.9292.
Town of Rocky Mount Enterprise Zone Initiatives
Businesses locating in the Central Business District are eligible for the Town of Rocky Mount Enterprise Zone Program. To encourage investment and growth within the Enterprise Zone, the town offers the following incentives: fee waivers for water and sewer hookup, low interest loans as available through area banks for residential rehabilitation, rehabilitated real state abatement, personal property tax rebate, and business license rebates. The Longwood Small Business Development Center
The Longwood Small Business Development Center provides assistance and training to help small business owners and potential owners make sound decisions for the successful operation of their business. Part of a statewide network, the Longwood SBDC serves twenty counties and six cities in South-Central Virginia.
